Expert monotype artist Katherine Rand will teach how to use trace monotype, a printmaking technique to transform line drawings into prints with unique textural effects during the Trace Monotype Workshop at Del Ray Artisans.

Learn how to use this printmaking technique to transform line drawings into prints with unique textural effects.

The trace monotype process involves inking a Plexiglas plate, placing a piece of paper face-down on top of the ink and drawing on the back of the paper to transfer the ink to the paper. Different mark-making tools and varying degrees of pressure can be used for this. Pencils, fingers and other objects each create their own interesting effects. When the paper is peeled off, the positive image is revealed. No press is required for this printmaking technique.

During this workshop black ink will be used as we practice the basic technique. Ways to add color with additional printing passes and mixed media will be covered. We will be working with water-soluble printing inks throughout the process. Join us to explore this distinctive method that you can use to add expressive marks to your artwork.

No experience is necessary. All supplies will be provided. If you have questions, please contact the instructor Katherine Rand at
