Holiday on The Avenue: Carols, Cocoa, Lights & Santa!

  • December 13, 2014
  • 6:00 PM
  • Mt. Vernon Avenue and Oxford Street (farmer's market)
The Annual Del Ray Tree Lighting begins at 6 PM with the lighting of the luminaries. Enjoy carols, cookies, hot cocoa and cider, and the music of The Rainbow Lady (aka Kate Moran) will be leading carols for the crowd. Santa will arrive to help light the tree followed by an opportunity to have your photo taken with Santa! (Please note that Santa finishes up 7:30 PM.)

The T. C. Williams High School Choir will also perform in a special appearance.

See thousands of luminaries lit and stop by one of the businesses staying open late. Hot cider will be served outside Pork Barrel BBQ or stop by the Front Porch by Evening Star Cafe where they've set up outdoor heaters and favorite holiday TV shows will be playing.

In the spirit of the holidays, the DRBA will also be collecting needy items for Carpenter’s Shelter.

  • Canned Goods (soup, vegetables, canned meat)
  • Disposable Diapers
  • New Twin Sheets
  • Towels and wash cloths
  • Deodorant/Razors
The evening kicks off the Tree Decorating Competition. So, as you stroll The Avenue take note of your favorite decorated tree. Voting will be online so remember your fave!
Event is free!

Special Thanks to Mike Anderson and Bill Blackburn from Pork Barrel BBQ, Holy Cow and the sushi bar for donating the 25-foot tree and to Evening Star Cafe for providing the hot cocoa. We'd also like to thank Cathy Puskar who arranged for Clark Builders Group and Colonial Electric to come over from Potomac Yard with a crane and cherry picker to get the tree up for all of us to enjoy.
