    We will be printing the 2014 DRBA Member Map very soon. Our printed map and directory of local businesses and organizations has always been a very popular and useful resource for existing and new residents and visitors to our area. We're making it even more useful with an interactive PDF version will be housed on as well as adding full-color advertising options for members on the print version.

    The next edition to be used through all of 2014. Member info will be pulled directly from the database as of Nov. 21st. 

    Final Deadline!

    Make sure your membership is current and that your contact info is correct by Nov. 21st! 

    Only members who are current on their dues will be listed! Don't be left out. (Also, due to the close deadline, if your membership has lapsed, we HIGHLY suggest that you pay by credit card. Payments by check might not arrive in time and we cannot guarantee processing in time for the map.)

    What and how you will be listed:
    If your business or organization is located within the boundaries of the map, it will be numerically listed on the front as well. (Some home-based businesses may choose to not have their locations listed in either the directory or map portion, but rather simply contact information.

    All standard directory listings will be limited to 4 lines of content (usually, Business name (bold), address (note no city/state/zip), email or phone, and web site. All email and web links will be "hot" on the downloadable version of the map which will be on the web site. This way, users can contact you directly (if the email is provided) or immediately navigate to your site. You can update your listing by logging into via the email address of the primary contact at

    Plans are underway for one of Del Ray’s favorite traditions, the Annual Del Ray Halloween Parade to be held on Sunday, October 27th at 2 pm.  In past years, more than 5,000 have participated in this annual event which included over 2,000 children, special dignitaries and elected officials; over 50 pets in Halloween costumes; and 25 decorated strollers.

    The parade begins at 2 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Avenue, south of E. Bellefonte and continues down to the Mount Vernon Recreational Center play fields at Mt. Vernon and Commonwealth Avenues. Children, pets, and strollers in costumes are invited to march and show off their finest and scariest Halloween garb.

    This year's parade will feature awards for Best Pet Costume, Best Decorated Business, Best Decorated Home, and Best Decorated Stroller. Judges include elected officials & City Dignitaries.  Deadline to nominate your home or a neighbor’s home for Best Decorated Home is October 20th at 5 pm and deadline to nominate Best Decorated Business is October 20th - e-mail the addresses to and state if it should be judged during the day or night.  Awards will be given out at a brief ceremony following the parade, along with refreshments (hot dogs donated by 7-Eleven, cider, and cookies) and goodie bags for the children (including as long as they last, healthy bags that will not have any candy). Entertainment will be provided by the popular band Mars Rodeo and again this year thanks to the Alexandria Jaycees there will be games and activities for the children. They will take place at the Mt. Vernon fields immediately following the parade. And congratulations to our Grand Marshal, Raven Baker from Cora Kelly.  The Parade and all activities are free!

    ***This year, please note that there is a major change for Stroller Entries for both registration location and judging.  Based on feedback from parents, judging for the Stroller Competition will be done prior to the parade.  Stroller entries must register by 1:30 pm at the corner of Mt. Vernon Avenue and E. Howell - look for long string of orange balloons & signs.  Once registered, strollers will line up on Howell to be judged prior to participating in the parade.  Please allow extra time to get to the judging area by 1:30 pm especially if your entry is difficult to maneuver or if you are a large group. There is no fee to register and there are lots of wonderful prizes donated from our local businesses.  Categories are:  “Creative”, “Humorous”, “Best Group or Family”, “Less is More” and “Overall”.

    Registration for Pets begins at 1:30 pm on Mt. Vernon south of E. Howell Ave.  look for signage to register your pet. Categories include: “Creative”, “Team”, “How Could You Do This to Me” & “Best of Show”.

    There is no registration required for children and families that march in the parade - they should gather at Mt. Vernon Avenue, south of E. Bellefonte.

    For the eighth year, we will collect & distribute Halloween costumes for children who would otherwise go without. We will be collecting donated costumes at Caboose, 2419 Mt. Vernon Ave, A Show of Hands, 2204 Mt. Vernon Ave, Del Ray Artisans, 2704 Mt. Vernon Ave, BB&T, 1901 Mt. Vernon Ave and distributing them on Saturday, October 26th, from 2-4 p.m. at Mount Vernon Recreation Center, 2701 Commonwealth Ave.  We especially need larger size costumes.

    After the parade from 5 pm to 8 pm, for the 7th year, families can enjoy a Spooky Bean Halloween Haunted Graveyard (free!) constructed by Bean Creative and will be located next to their lot at Mt. Vernon and E. Del Ray Avenue.  It is definitely a must do Del Ray tradition.  Special thanks to our neighbor, Bean Creative.

    The parade is sponsored by the Del Ray Business Association (DRBA) and we are always looking for additional sponsors and financial contributions, goodie bag contributions, and volunteers.     According to an article in the Washington Business Journal:

    New data regarding loans of under $1 million made to Greater Washington, D.C. area businesses during 2012 shows that BB&T was way ahead of other banks in terms of the amount lent. BB&T lent $580 million to local small businesses through 5,228 loans during the year.

    BB&T will be having an "Ask the Architect" Day on Saturday September 14th from 10am - 1pm at the BB&T branch on Mount Vernon Avenue.

    The event will feature Gaver Nichols, Architect. Mr. Nichols has worked on numerous projects throughout the Alexandria area and will be here to answer questions regarding home/commercial architecture and renovations. 

    Along with Mr. Nichols, BB&T's Mortgage Loan Officer Dan Puhlick will be in attendance to answer any financing questions.

    Local realtor Nora Partlow will also be in attendance. 

    BB&T will be offering food and drinks throughout the event and welcome anyone from the area.
